Paul Song of the Day

Send Me on My Way

May 12, 2026

I remember standing on a windowsill in a dorm room in 2011 and watching everyone in the room dance and sway to this song. I remember Hulk hands and drinking. I remember realizing that I missed out on so many opportunities to have these kinds of dance parties with my brother and his coterie by staying away. There were only a few hours between us; I could have traversed them.

But then I would have missed the Elmira dance parties.

I’m limited in my options and it disgusts me. There are so many pathways ahead of me and I can only choose one. Right? There is no opportunity that, once seized, allows for the simultaneous seizure of another. Each new opportunity requires putting down the one currently held.

This is a poetic way of saying that I’m making another job switch at some point in the coming months. Currently working as a paraprofessional, I am ready to be a full-fledged teacher. I’ve seen plenty of examples to know that I don’t have to be the best teacher, I just need to be pretty good. And I’m excited about the prospect.

Now, I just need to figure out how to get a teacher’s license and I’ll be good to go. In the meantime, I’m working on a new piece for the month of June while making semi-daily posts. We’ll see if I can keep to some sort of regularity.
